Hill-Tec is a Highlands-based civil engineering company focused on delivering complex infrastructure to a standard that the region can be proud of. Civil engineering is our core, but our project delivery approach brings together multiple disciplines, allowing us to support clients across the varied technical and organisational challenges that modern infrastructure demands.
We are deeply invested in the Highlands and in strengthening the built environment that supports its future. Working within the Nigg Cable Factory and the wider Freeport area has brought our team into daily contact with international engineering methods, global quality expectations, and a wide mix of specialists from across Europe and beyond. It has reinforced our belief that world-class delivery is not something the Highlands should aspire to, but something we can achieve here and now.
As the Inverness & Cromarty Firth Green Freeport continues to grow, Hill-Tec is committed to being a dependable, constructive partner in the projects that will shape the region for the next generation. We bring technical capability, practical experience, and genuine pride in raising the standard of Highland infrastructure.

Q&A
1. Can you introduce your business and what you do?
Hill-Tec is a Highland-based project delivery specialist supporting major infrastructure, renewable energy, and industrial developments across Scotland. We work across the full spectrum of project needs, from hands-on technical installation to HSEQ leadership, programme coordination, civils support, and client-side delivery. Some days, that means being in a boiler suit on a windswept site, helping to solve a real-time engineering challenge, and other days it means leading safety, planning, and quality processes to keep complex, multi-stakeholder projects moving smoothly.
Our work with Caley Ocean Systems and Three60Energy on the Sumitomo subsea cable facility is one example of the physical, precision-driven end of what we do. Still, it represents only a fraction of our wider capabilities. We also support cabling, substation, and grid infrastructure projects across the Highlands, bringing structure, leadership, and a pragmatic approach that keeps people coordinated and programmes on track.
2. How do your products or services support businesses looking to invest, build, or expand in the Green Freeport?
Investors and developers entering the Green Freeport need partners who can provide stability, clarity, and technical competence across every stage of delivery. Hill-Tec supports that by acting as both a hands-on installation contractor and a structured project delivery partner. We take responsibility for the real-world interfaces, equipment foundations, safety processes, and coordination activities that can make or break a schedule.
Whether we are physically installing critical components or guiding the HSEQ and planning functions on a large programme, our aim is the same: to give investors confidence that the work is being delivered safely, accurately, and without unnecessary risk.
3. What sets your business apart — why should investors and partners work with you?
Hill-Tec combines two strengths that are rarely found in the same team. We bring the practical capability to deliver technical works on the ground, and we also bring the structure, communication, and leadership required to support wider project delivery. This dual skill set allows us to operate confidently in both the operational and managerial layers of a project, which is invaluable to partners who want fewer contractors and more capability.
People trust us because we are honest, reliable, and comfortable owning both the detail and the bigger picture. We collaborate well, anticipate challenges, and bring a Highland steadiness that tends to keep teams calm, focused, and working together even when conditions are demanding.
4. How are you contributing to the wider Highland economy, community, or sustainability goals?
The Green Freeport has allowed businesses like ours to expand our services while strengthening local capability. Our contribution spans both employment and knowledge, whether we are developing skilled local technicians or building the leadership and systems expertise required for modern infrastructure projects. The Highlands deserves a workforce that can support large projects without relying excessively on external labour, and we are committed to helping build that future.
On the sustainability front, we are actively modernising how specialist works are delivered. With cleaner equipment, quieter operations, and lower emissions, we are aligning our working practices with both community expectations and national climate goals.
5. Looking ahead, what opportunities do you see for your sector within the Green Freeport?
The Green Freeport is creating sustained long-term demand for both construction expertise and disciplined project delivery. We see major opportunities not only in precision installation but also in supporting developers with safety leadership, programme management, civils and cable works, and the coordination of complex multi-phase builds. Whether the work is at a substation, a manufacturing line, a port facility, or a cable factory, the region will need contractors who can operate confidently on the tools and in the meeting room.
Hill-Tec intends to grow with the Freeport by continuing to offer that dual competency. The next decade will reward companies who can deliver cleanly, safely, and with the professionalism expected of global supply chains, and we are positioning ourselves to play a key part in that evolution.
