The PowerHouse – the skills and innovation vehicle of Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport (ICFGF) – has joined forces with two local legal firms to launch a monthly drop-in for businesses and individuals seeking legal guidance.
The legal support desk is being delivered free of charge in conjunction with Brodies LLP and Wright Johnston & Mackenzie LLP, with their teams able to provide guidance on a wide range of commercial and personal legal issues.
The service is open to any organisation or individual with an interest in the green freeport, and aims to support the ambition of developing the Highlands as a world-leading hub for the renewables sector. The first session takes place on Thursday, February 20th from 10am until 3pm at the ICFGF offices in UHI House in Inverness.
Alli Vass, Powerhouse Manager, explained: “Part of the role of The Powerhouse is to develop support networks, create connections and share knowledge. We believe these three things are critical to helping the green freeport – and in turn the north of Scotland – realise its full potential.
“Part of that drive to create connections is our new legal support desk partnership. The team from Brodies and Wright Johnston & Mackenzie are open to supporting on any legal matter, whether commercial or personal, that helps to businesses and people connected to the green freeport.
“The support desk team will be able to signpost service users to where they can obtain easy access legal resources and direct them to more detailed advice if required. The green freeport presents opportunities for businesses, communities and people, and this partnership offers valuable support to those who could benefit from guidance as they leverage those opportunities.”
Brodies has already implemented a similar successful initiative within the Aberdeen area as part of the Business Gateway scheme run by Scottish Enterprise, and in a regeneration scheme in the north of England. The team has helped many service users in those areas by providing a legal sounding board without the risk of commitment to fees or the need to arrange meetings.
The drop-in sessions will continue throughout 2025 on the penultimate Thursday of the month. The desk will be manned by lawyers from both Brodies and Wright Johnston & Mackenzie, and no appointment is necessary.
